Sally Lees makes jewellery for everyone. Her designs are worn by people of all ages and all walks of life. 'I met a woman in a lift in the Royal Festival Hall recently and decided to go in the very exciting singing lift. The lift  journey is accompanied by 'ah ah ah ah ah ah' with each level punctuated with 'Level one!' sang in the in lowest baritone up to 'Level six' in the highest soprano. Making the Chinese Dragon Guitar Pick

I love music, particularly guitar music and wanted to make some products that weren't jewellery pieces. So I decided to use the printing and dying techniques that I use for making my Birth Flower Jewellery to make my new guitar picks. I made a whole batch of guitar picks in many different colours and designs to sell on my market stall at Greenwich Market and both budding rock stars and seasoned musicians loved them. Lots of customers bought them for the musicians in their lives as a really cool and original gift. So this is how I made the picks....

Guitar Picks - The making of...the Swallow motif Guitar Pick

                    Well I love music...particularly guitar music. So it was very exciting for me when I hit upon the idea of making some hand made aluminium guitar picks. It was a chance to make a product which wasn't strictly jewellery, though I have since made some of the guitar picks into pendants that can be worn and used. Being a designer maker / artist / jeweller...

It's a mystery to many people what us designer makers do all day in our cosy little studios. Drinking tea or coffee and listening to the radio whilst eating biscuits and idly doodling our designs then hey presto a collection of jewellery/ceramics/textiles (etc) is born! Well not quite like that though it is very close... An idea is conceived but that's when the hard work really starts. Figuring out how to make the object and deciding whether it looks as good in it's three dimensional form as it did in your mind's eye is key and a skill in itself....
