Celebrate the Suffragists with these Reversible Earrings
Red and green were the colours adopted by Millicent Fawcett's National Union of Suffrage Societies when she and the suffragists broke away from Emmeline Pankhurst and the suffragettes who are know for their purple and green sashes and banners.
Sally made these earrings for the Voice and Vote exhibition at The Houses of Parliament in 2018 and was an addition to her New Dawn jewellery collection commissioned by them to accompany and inspired by the light sculpture of the same name installed in Westminster in 2016.
Constructed using aluminium dyed a vibrant red and green the earrings are reversible and can be worn in the spirit of the suffragists with one red and one green; with two sides green or two sides red. They have a polished surface and reflect the light beautifully.
The disks are patterned with the scrolls that the Parliamentary Act which allowed some women to vote is written. The disks even move and can be removed and turned around to alter the way the colour is facing.
They are definitely a great gift for a lover of women's rights history!
