Sally Lees (London)
My passion is metal. Manipulating it, etching it, dying and printing onto it to enable me to create beautiful wearable jewellery for women and stylish, contemporary cufflinks for men. Inspiration comes from working with the materials themselves and nature with orchids and roses taking center stage.
I decorate the aluminium sheets by hand with delicate, intricately printed floral patterns taken from my original line drawings then dye them vibrant colours. The printed illustrations retain the charm of the original sketches and the polished aluminium with it's mirror like finishes is reminiscent of Japanese lacque.
The floral drawings are also translated into a luxury men's accessories collection with photo-etched drawings filled with gold decorating cufflinks, collar stays, and money clips.
I am a member of the NAJ and Craft Central and my work is featured in 'Anodised!' by Clare Stiles and 'Coloured Aluminium Jewellery' by Lindsey Mann .
Commissions for major institutions include aluminium plaques for the Camden Business Awards in 2013 and 2015 and The Social Enterprise Gold Mark Awards in 2014.
